Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, I will remember you.
When the news broke out that you were in the ICU in SGH, my heart sank. As the days went by, the progress of your recovery was not optimistic.
Somehow, a part of me really hope you can overcome this hurdle and celebrate the Jubilee year with us. Without you, the SG50 celebration will not be complete.
This article is for me to thank you for giving all you have to build Singapore into a world class country. I am able to lead a life that I have always wanted.
Importance of Education
It is your commitment and perseverance to lead us, Singapore, to be a country so successful that everyone from all over the world, hope to come and live, work and groom their children.
I was born in 1980. My parents were not educated. My mum is a housewife and my father earned meagerly.
You managed to instill the importance of education to my parents, especially to my mum. She really made us study hard and get good grades for our studies. You reinforce the value of education and that education can give us a better quality of life. My mum was telling me that you said something like "If you have a hard life, try your best to give your children a good education. When your children grow up and get good jobs, you will end this hard life."
True, my siblings, husband and myself are real life examples of your initiative. We are leading a good quality of life, never need to worry about jobs, money and food. Just because, we received a good education.
SG50
While some of us would lament that the education system is very stressful in Singapore, however, they probably did not think that Singapore took 50 years to become what it is today. If we do not work extra hard, we will not be able to achieve what we have now today.
Being a Singapore Citizen
You made us proud being a Singapore Citizen. If we were to travel overseas, should anyone ask me where I am from. Without hesitation, I would proudly addressed, "SINGAPORE!".
I am fortunate to be born and a citizen of Singapore. I appreciate the things you have done to make Singapore the way it is.
Once again, with my heartfelt thanks, thank you Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.
